The finished sports event dedicated to children by "Apeiron" and the Special Olympics


THE DAYS OF INCLUSIVE SPORTS ON APEIRON” GATHERED NUMEROUS PARTICIPANTS


The traditional two-day sports event "Days of Inclusive Sports on Apeiron", organized by the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the Pan-European University and the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ended with sports games - football and basketball on June 9.


  • This is the best way to include people with disabilities in all spheres of social life, and this year our sports event was organized as part of the "Family and Health Forum" project. I hope that such events will contribute even more to spreading awareness of the importance of sports for people with disabilities and support them in their efforts to become equal members of society, said Prof. dr Kada Delić Selimović, director of the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a teacher at "Apeiron" University. She emphasized that the goal of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and the Special Olympics of BiH is to contribute to the recognition of the importance of children's physical activity and inclusion in sports in the early period of children's development.

The "Days of Inclusive Sports" brought together numerous participants: members of the "Neven" Association from Prijedor, the "Hrabro srce" Association from Tuzla, the "Neven" Association from Prnjavor, the "Sunce" Association from Pale, and the Sports School for Children with Difficulties from Banja Luka development "Sunce", members of the Service Center "Dajte nam chanci", Athletic Club "Banja Luka" and students of the High School Center "Gemit-Apeiron".


The event began with anthropometric measurements of people with developmental disabilities, which were organized and carried out by teachers, assistants and students of the Pan-European University on June 8, and with the organization of the Family Health Forum, where topics were presented about the importance of sports for people with developmental disabilities, the role of parents in involving children in sports and sports activities, healthy eating, fitness and diabetes prevention for children with difficulties.


Sabina Šunjić, mother of Edna Šunjić, winner of two gold medals of the Special Olympics, held a lecture on "The role of parents in the inclusion of children with developmental disabilities". The lecture was attended by parents and children involved in inclusive sports, students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and students of the "Gemit-Apeiron" Secondary School Center. Oliver Krička, associate at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the Pan-European University, and prof. Dr. Kada Delić Selimović.


On the second day, inclusive sports games - football and basketball, as well as diabetes testing - were organized for the participants.


This is the fourth year that "Apeiron" and the Special Olympics have gathered children on their fields, playgrounds and classrooms. Inclusive training was also organized with children up to 7 years of age from the preschool institution "Marija Madžar", with which the University has a long-term cooperation.
