APEIRON'S JOURNAL "SPORTS SCIENCES AND HEALTH" IN THE LARGEST EUROPEAN CITATION DATABASE SCOPUS

Sports science and health

The international scientific journal "Sports Sciences and Health", which has been published by the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the Pan-European University for ten years, was accepted in Scopus - the largest citation database for the European climate at the end of April 2020.

Scopus is one of the three most important citation databases available to scholars, along with Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters) and Google Scholar, and covers the natural, technical, medical and social sciences, as well as the humanities and the arts. This database indexes sources from around the world, and includes more than 70 million records for more than 23.700 peer-reviewed journals, 300 trade journals from almost all scientific fields, 8 million conference papers, and more than 1,4 billion cited references since 1970. Through this the database can track the citations of individual authors, works, etc. since 1996, and the data on the works reach all the way back to 1893. Scopus is closed type and cannot be searched unless you have a signed contract. Within the database, there is a search engine called Journal Metrics, through which you can see if a specific journal is in the Scopus database.

"Works published in the journal on the Scopus and Web of Science lists are especially valued in the scientific research community, and in the proposal of the new Law on Higher Education of the RS, they are one of the criteria for the promotion of university teachers. Also, it is one of the criteria when evaluating teams in scientific research projects. After all, the responsible Ministry also stated as one of the goals in its strategy the increase in the productivity of scientists and the increase in the number of works published in publications, which are included in the aforementioned citation databases. Our teachers, associates and students have the opportunity to publish papers in the Scopus indexed journal, but let me say right away that now the number of papers received and the number of countries will be three times higher. Many initially did not understand our rigorous approach in accepting papers for publication in the Journal. In the past nine years, 152 papers were published, sent by 486 authors from 17 countries. In addition to Scopus, our Journal is indexed in 11 other international citation databases. The positive evaluation by Elsevier Scopus is the result of many years of work by the entire team of the Journal. From the very beginning, professors Đorđe Nićin, Osmo Bajrić and I have been creating a scientific-professional magazine in the field of sports and medical-rehabilitation sciences. The criteria for a positive evaluation for the Scopus database are very extensive and demanding, and the passing rate is low. These include the regularity of presentation, the citation of papers, whether the published papers are in accordance with the aims and thematic areas of the journal, whether the papers or abstracts are published in English, the anonymity of reviews and ethical standards for the publication of papers in scientific publications. The visibility of the magazine and its internationalization are very important. The competition for the Scopus database is high, our team is overjoyed and even though we are in online contact mode due to the situation, we managed to share positive emotions together due to the great success of another journal published by our university. The experiences of colleagues from the Faculty of Business Economics of the Pan-European University "Apeiron" helped us to a great extent., who edit the "EMC Review" magazine, which is indexed in the Web Of Science-ESCI database," said Prof. Dr. Velibor Srdić, dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences and editor-in-chief of the magazine "Sports Science and Health.

Scopus pointed out that the journal consistently includes articles that are relevant to an international academic or professional audience in the field.
