"Apeiron" and the Special Olympics BiH organized Days of Inclusive Sports

On June 13, Pan-European University "Apeiron" Banja Luka and the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized the sports event "Days of inclusive sports at Apeiron" for the third year in a row. Inclusion means the inclusion of children in everyday activities, regardless of the degree of their motor, cognitive and biological development. In the inclusive competition in basketball, football and table tennis, the students of JU Center "Sunce" Prijedor, Center "Zaštiti me" Banja Luka, Club of special sports Banja Luka, Association of parents and persons with special needs "Brave heart" participated. Banja Luka, Association "Neven" Prijedor, Preschool institution "Marija Mažar" ​​Banja Luka, Club of special sports Tuzla, STK disabled "Banja Luka", as well as students of SŠC "Gemit-Apeiron" and students of the University " Apeiron". Anthropometric measurements and testing of motor skills of the participants were also performed. In addition to these competitive activities, the "Young Athletes" program organized training sessions for the children of the "Marija Mažar" ​​kindergarten, where the children demonstrated their skills on the dexterity range. The "Idriz Jakupović" Foundation presented the participants with basketballs, and in September they will be pleased with backpacks. Vitinka provided water for all students.

Secretary General Goran Ćejić joined our event and the children in front of the Football Association of Republika Srpska.

Voluntary support was provided by students, teachers and associates of the University "Apeiron. Prof. Ph.D. Velibor Srdić, dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, emphasized that the goal of the event is more active and wider involvement of the social, scientific and professional public in improving the quality of life of people with special needs.

Dragana and Bojan, children from the Public Institution "Sunce" from Prijedor, did not hide their enthusiasm that for three years they have had the opportunity to participate, compete and socialize. "We play and compete, my team likes to win." I was at this same event last year, it was great. Now I enjoy with my old and new friends", said Bojan.

"Children with reduced abilities in sports activities can participate equally and have the same place in society as others. The purpose was not to show who is better and who is worse, but to enable the youth to show their achievements", said Kada Delić Selimović, director of the Special Olympics of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a teacher at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the "Apeiron" University, Faculty of Sports Sciences.

The organizers pointed out that it is primary to provide space for children and youth with special needs to present their achievements and enable their active participation in all sports.
