  • The goal is for all schools in the country to be connected to broadband Internet - this is one of the messages of the Digital Summit of the Western Balkans


Siniša Macan, professor of cyber law at "Apeiron" University and advisor for the development of electronic business of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska was one of the panelists of the 6th Digital Summit of the Western Balkans, held in Sarajevo on October 4 and 5, 2023.


The summit is the largest regional digital event on cooperation in the field of digital transformation, and was organized by the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC).


Professor Macan with 4 other panelists participated in a panel discussion entitled STRENGTHENING CYBERSECURITY IN THE WESTERN BALKANS. The extremely well-attended panel discussed the situation and measures that could be taken to raise the level of information security in the countries of the Western Balkans. The panelists agreed that the lack of experts in the field of information security is one of the key problems in all countries and highlighted the role of the academic community in overcoming this problem. It is necessary to introduce education programs that deal with all aspects of information security in order to overcome the situation in which the public administration, as well as the business community and individuals deal with information security only when a problem occurs.


By the way, the Summit was attended by over 100 speakers - representatives of the ministries of the Western Balkan region, but also of the countries of the European Union, company directors, representatives of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, project managers and technical experts of the CEFTA secretariat from Brussels, foreign trade chambers and others. international and regional organizations. They talked about topics such as: How regional cooperation strengthens cyber security, Digital leadership and the future of management, Regional entrepreneurship and the ecosystem, Interoperability in the Western Balkans, Improving e-commerce and many others.


Summit experts emphasized that the Balkans need a digital community, such as energy and transport.


"When it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina, we must do our best to ensure that all schools in the country are connected to broadband Internet" is the message that was heard the loudest.


This two-day event brought together about 500 participants and within it was held the EXPO, part of which was presented 150 companies, leaders in the sector of information and communication technologies, including the three largest telecom operators from Bosnia and Herzegovina.


The organizers point out that the Summit showed that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the strength and energy for digital transformation.
