The top representative of Yugoslavia and Serbia, the director of the handball club from Zagreb and the fitness coach of the "Borca" handball players held a lecture

  • During the pandemic, competitions were organized both in handball and in all other sports, regardless of the health status of the players. In general, in sports during the corona there was no protection of athletes and it is common knowledge that profit was primary, said Mladen Bojinović at the lecture he held with assistant professors Nenad Radjević and Vedran Šupuković at "Apeiron" on March 24 on the topic "Experience in maintaining sports form in handball during the Covid-19 pandemic".

Mladen Bojinović is a former top handball player, representative of Yugoslavia and Serbia, player of Spanish Ademar Leon, French Montpellier and Paris Saint-Germain. Through his presentations, he emphasized that it is not easy to become a top athlete.

  • On TV, everything looks like a fairy tale and easy. It wasn't for me. I didn't play with the children in front of the building, and my training sessions were hard and demanding. But sport builds people for the better. Throughout my career I was often found fault with and I fought because I knew I could become who I am today. Many gave up, added Bojinović, better known to Banja Luka as Baka. Today, he is a qualified coach - he graduated from the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the University "Apeiron" in 2015.

Asst. Dr. Nenad Radjevic, fitness coach of the "Borac" Handball Club Banja Luka points out that it was almost impossible to manage during the pandemic.

  • In that miraculous year of 2020, we start with regular preparations, and soon come tests for covid, isolation for 15 days and very unpleasant situations in which no indications are given of how to behave. My team from competitive form was brought to a total block and the unknown of what to do while preserving the form of our player. From 12,13 hours of weekly work, we burned to zero. The only thing I could introduce was 45-minute exercises, but even on the least demanding endeavors it happened that the players had a high heart rate. The problem is that some players are still suffering from the effects of the virus, Radjevic said.

Associate Professor Vedran Šupuković, director of the "PPD Zagreb" Handball Club, reflected on finances during the covid.

  • We all depend on some sources of money and small shifts in the cash flows of big clubs cause catastrophic problems. Corona reduced the flow of money and caused millions of euros in losses. There were automatically restrictions and disruptions in the functioning of the business, Šupuković said.

It was pointed out that during the pandemic there were definitely no precise recommendations on how to behave on the field, where after isolation and several specialist examinations the players return with lost performance and that time was needed for strategies. It was said that the cause of this can be sought in a dysfunctional organizational system .
